This is a guide to the Races that inhabit Balaria. It includes the difficulty one may experience playing the race, whether it requires an application, and more details on what the race is.
Non-whitelisted Races
Difficulty: Easy
Race: Lightfoots
Special Attribute: Increased Speed in Combat + Start with more coin.
Lightfoots are similar to something akin to a human mixed with a halfling. Typically very energetic, happy, and outgoing in nature; they are known to be hard workers. They are also known to be the founders of the biggest city within Elarya, known as Lambridge. Though Lambridge existed when the races migrated from Xyas to Elarya, it was a smaller, more quaint town. The Lightfoots have found themselves thriving on trade and opening markets across Balaria. They are an easy race to begin with, especially if you want your character to be in some type of trade business or settle in Lambridge. They worship Tethis and claim that he aided in providing the calm waves that brought their ships to Elarya.
Race: Kore
Special Attribute: Can make their skin the consistancy of bark in combat (2 turns).
The Kore are another easy starting race. They can be likened to a mix between an Elf, a Druid, and a Fae. They are said to all come from Faela, the First Preceptor, or the Preceptor of Earth. They vary from having more "human" like features to more tree-like, with hard bark-like skin and leaf-like hair. As "elves" are a typical and common race to play, as are Fae, this can be an easy race to begin with.
Difficulty: Medium
Race: Selheo
Special Attribute: Faster progression in Alchemy.
If you're looking for something a bit more unique and unusual in nature within the World of Balaria, you can play a Selheo. The Selheo could be attributed to being similar to orcs, imps, and trolls, but not entirely the same as any of the above. Tribal in nature, the Selheo are known to have long, lanky bodies and unusually bright colors. Piercing their ears is a tradition amongst the Selheo, as is known for being more of a tough, combat-oriented race. Those who aren't inclined towards combat are most often found pursuing a profession in Alchemy, which many have opted to do after the Great War. As they were very combat oriented before the War, many saw them as brutal and similar to their Imp brethren. Being attributed to Imps has caused some of the population of Balaria to steer clear of them, and racism is prevalent.
Race: Half-Races
Special Attribute: One from each parent race.
The player must have balance regarding the attributes, behavior, and characteristics gained by the parent races. They are only allowed to pick one special attribute from each parent. Some cultures and races upon Balaria see half-races as a disgrace; especially cultures such as Mirciem and Selheo.
Race: The Taniwha
Special Attribute: Glowing ball of fire (non combat) + Resistance to heat.
The Taniwha are, for the most part, similar to Tieflings. Rather than being characteristically closer to an imp, demon, and so forth - they are closer to Dragons. Alongside sharp chins and pointed ears, the Taniwha also bear Dragon-like horns. The Taniwha also contain various amounts of scales upon their bodies. They are said to be the first race in which inherited the ability to use magic, given to the first mortal Preceptor - Nysmeila. Though they are gifted and contain interesting attributes, many of the Taniwha are known to go mad in their search for knowledge and power. If they are to go into professions in which they learn magic or undertake studies, this can decline their mental health.
Difficulty: Hard
Race: Imps
Special Attribute: Imps have wings and may fly for short periods. Water Imps are able to swim much faster and hold their breath for 2 hours.
The Imps are very much a disliked race within most of Balaria. Seen as the "rats" or "vermin" of the world because of their affinity to be aggressive, hostile, and have sticky fingers; most are tossed out of civilized cities. Being associated with an Imp is considered a negative thing and said to possibly bring you bad luck. Playing as this race can be difficult as you are likely to be met with hostility, and you may only breed with those of your same race.
Race: Mirciem
Special Attribute: Can scream and stun all nearby enemies for one turn.
Arguably the most hated race upon Balaria, the Mirciem are seen as cursed beings or a varient of the undead. Similar to Sirens or Banshees, if they speak above a soft tone or whisper, they can hurt the ear drums of those around them. They are typically either shunned from most societies or just avoided. They are hated mostly by the Kore, which see them as a blight, and an affront to Faela. Their traditions of burying the dead anger and upset the Taniwha. This race may be harder to play if a player is interested in being social with other races or travelling often, as the Mirciem are very kept to themselves and shunned in many places.
