The Lightfoots

--++| Physical Appearance |++--
A diverse species, Lightfoots are known to be shorter than their Elven brethren, with rounded ears and softer skin. Their hair and skin vary depending on where they are born, with those from the desert being tanner; and those born within the snowy mountains being paler. Regardless, they maintain natural hair colors. These range from brown to black and blonde to copper. Those born in the snowy, treacherous mountains would tend to have more of a blonde or coppery hair color, whilst those from the desert have a darker, dark brown or black colored head of hair. Regardless of this, most of the range of hair colors may also depend on heritage. For example, if one from the mountains and one from the desert came together, they may have a mix of these colors. Individuals from the main trade city typically have a more neutral in-between, such as brown or dark blonde.

The attire of the Lightfoots would depend on where they are from. As per skin tone, if they were raised in snowy lands, they would have furs and thicker attire. If they were from the desert, they would wear lighter, more airy attire. Those from the trade city are known to wear things such as colorful and pricey tunics and pants, dresses of many bright colors and patterns, and scarves of finely made material.
The height of these individuals range from 5’0 to 6’0, shorter than their Elven counterparts, though taller than some other inhabitants of Balaria.

Lightfoots tend to live to anywhere from 80 -100 years old, having a bit shorter lifespan, though they make the most of it. They begin to grow gray hair around the age of 50, and by the time they are 70 or 80, their hair is mostly gray or white, their skin wrinkled.

As opposed to a few of the other races inhabiting Balaria, Lightfoots are less of a magical species. Rather than gaining magical prowess, they begin their journey with more coin than other races. They also have an increased speed compared to others.

In their society, Lightfoots reach the age of maturity at 20, much like the Mirciem. Marital age may be at any time after that. Many Lightfoots end up being in arranged marriages to strengthen trading-related bonds with notable traders within the Capital City. This is a common, accepted practice, though not every individual will end up in an arranged marriage; typically, only those born from a line of known, wealthy traders. Those who are not in said families are able to marry freely, as their heart desires. The ceremony for them to become wed is fairly relaxed and simple. Their hands are bound together with fine silk. They then drink from a chalice, in which is filled with water said to be blessed by Tethis himself - gathered from a clear, fast running river near Lambridge and blessed by a religious leader. After the two drink, they are said to be bound by Tethis, in both life and eventually, death. The newlyweds are expected to shower one another with lavish presents, usually trade goods passed down from their family line. There is typically not much of a celebration after, as the traders are quick to return to work - though some may choose to do so.
In death, the Lightfoots have a ceremony in which the deceased is wrapped in the finest of silk cloth, then are set upon a well-made wooden raft and pushed out to sea. The Lightfoots believe that their deceased will be given back to Tethis, Preceptor of Water, and finally be at peace. Thereafter, the deceased’s family spends one week in a time of mourning, shedding their colorful attire and only wearing colors of dark blue, white, or black. Candles, flowers, and offerings are set at a shrine of Tethis, said to be a plea for their loved ones to be accepted into the afterlife with dignity and peace.
Lightfoots are said to have gotten their name for their ability to be light on their feet and quick to run over to prospective buyers to make a trade, or sell their wares. Individuals who visit the main city are able to see them in action, sprinting around as they carry wares, fulfill customer demands, and sell their wares.

The Lightfoots, as seen within their traditions, worship the Preceptor of Water, Tethis. They believe that Tethis carefully guided the ships of the individuals who traveled from Xyas to Elarya, providing the waves and currents that brought them to a better life. The trading hub of all of Elarya, Lambridge is constantly bustling with activity. A large part of this activity are the ships that set out to the entirety of Elarya, bringing goods to and fro. The ability for Lambridge, and the Lightfoots, to be the center of trade is attributed highly to the Preceptor of Water. As with the other Preceptors, shrines of Tethis are built within the city, and even within homes. There are many traditions in which individuals worship Tethis, though mainly it is done through offerings of trade goods set at the base of both shrines, and statues of him throughout Lambridge.
